Decode Heavy Desk Light

The Decode Heavy Desk Light encapsulates the material focused approach of Benjamin Hubert and is designed not only to push the potential of an industrial material like concrete but also to challenge perceptions of value and design. A delightful mix of concrete and wood adds a real fresh approach to this design. The Heavy Desk Light was awarded 'British Design of the Year' by The British Design Awards 2009 in conjunction with Elle Decoration. Manufactured in two different grey finishes, each concrete shade is individually slip-cast and left inverted in the mould to dry for a number of days. During this process, random air pockets and veining develop on the interior of the shade. These markings vary from one shade to the next and create unique and irregular marble- like patterns, which contrast with the shade’s smooth exterior and wooden arm.
