The Vitra Eames Contract Tables were designed together with the Aluminium Group chairs and feature the latter's cruciform base. Originally the tables were part of a range of high-grade furniture for outdoor use devised by Charles and Ray Eames.
Charles & Ray Eames are one of modern design's most recognisable partnerships. Born in the early part of the 20th Century Charles and Ray Eames married in 1941 and moved to Los Angeles, where together they began experimenting with techniques for the three-dimensional moulding of plywood. The aim was to create comfortable chairs that were affordable.
Playful and fun, the Eames' had a great energy that lives through their iconic products today. "Take your pleasure seriously" was a favourite saying of Charles Eames.
