The Bestlite BL1 was designed in 1930 by the English designer Robert Dudley Best. Within a short period of time the Bestlite lamp proved a great success and was proclaimed the first Bauhaus manifestation in the UK by the leading British publication Architects Journal.
During the second World War the Bestlite achieved the status of a national icon when Winston Churchill had one standing on his desk. The arm moves up and down allowing for adjustable light. The new All Chrome version offers an opulent and luxurious feel to the classic light.

Robert Dudley Best was a British manufacturer deeply involved with the Modern design movement in and immediately after the interwar years. He took over Best & Lloyd, his father's light industrial engineering works in Birmingham, having previously trained as a metal designer at art school in Düsseldorf. Gubi now produce the iconic Bestlite range and still look as stylish today as they did when they were first designed.
